Custom Rims and Custom Wheels Options
Article by Melissa Langley
A real customized vehicle enthusiast would know that getting the right custom rims and car accessories is the way to constantly "up" the value of one's automobile. Whether its alloy or chrome rims, choosing the right look for your vehicle should always be at a premium.
Having custom wheels and custom rims installed to your vehicle provides an instant "wow" factor to your car or truck because their one of the first exterior parts you see. The material of your wheels and rims also contributes to the overall impact of your custom car. Aluminum wheels and chrome rims are the rave these days but there are still plenty of options.
Choosing Custom Wheels
This part of process can be a challenge, especially if you're a newbie to the customizing world. The first step is to move from factory wheels to customized ones that are made of sturdier and better looking materials. Going bigger is the usual way to go, which is only logical because it undeniably gives the vehicle a non-factory made look. Aluminum wheels that are a size bigger than your factory rims is a good start but you can actually go one more size higher; however, this will require you to change everything else-from your tires to the hubcaps. Aluminum wheels are guaranteed to last longer and are less prone to rust.
Going for lighter materials such as alloy is also one way of upping the look and performance of your vehicle. Steel wheels will obviously slow down your vehicle so opting for alloy, especially if you're racing should give you better speed. On the other hand, if your vehicle is expected to do heavy duty work, custom wheels made of steel with a sturdy interior structure are best for off-road driving. Available sizes for these parts are 17 inch wheels, 20 inch wheels, and 22 inch wheels.
Brand name is another crucial consideration when choosing custom wheels. Trusted names such as American Racing, BBS, Eagle, Boss, Enkei, Asanti, Centerline, TSW, Panther, Beyern will never do you wrong. Custom vehicles don't come cheap so expect to invest more money on them. Cheap-priced custom wheels with an unknown brand name should make you think twice.
Choosing Custom Rims
Again, converting from factory rims to custom rims is the first step. Changing wheels also means changing rims and more often than not, the material you choose for your wheels will also be carried over with the rims. Always remember that your rims will be the supporting structure for your tires and wheels and making sure that you get the best quality material is a must.
The different types of rims available and are popular today include spinning rims, chrome rims, truck rims, racing rims and custom rims. The different types of custom rims vary in design, price, size, weight and installation options. Usually, if the rims are lighter in weight, the general road performance of the vehicle is better. But if the look is what you're after, alloy custom rims are usually the first on the list. These car and truck rims have also received great reviews in terms of off-road performance.
Brands to look for are American Racing, BBS, Eagle, Boss, Enkei, Asanti, Centerline, TSW, Panther, BeyernDunlap, Continental, General, Michelin, BFG, Goodyear, Firestone, Bridgestone, Toyo, and Pirelli.
